Navy crops with pattern matching & gin tasting.

Hi there, hope you're all okay.

Was it a good weekend?
What did you get up to?
Hope whatever it was you had fun!

Saturday night we went to friends for a 'Gin Night' which involved tasting gin, and lots of it too!  Lucky me!
Are you a lover of gin?

Gin is a neutral spirit flavoured with Botanicals such as juniper berries, angelica root, coriander seeds, ginger root and cassia bark to name but a few.  There are plenty of other ingredients that are used to infuse & gain a different taste.
Eight gin lovers set about sampling some eight gin and tonic's, all slightly different in flavours mixed with tonic & the likes of lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange peel and cucumber.  Fortunately we had some nibbles to soak up the alcohol, interspersed with water breaks and lots of chat.  By the end of the evening there might have been was some hot moves on the living room dance floor to some 80's R & B/Soul favourites -  Great memories!

So after a late night Saturday It only felt right to have a lazy Sunday doing nothing. Doing nothing obviously meant no cooking, so we had a meal out with some of our children.  Six of us went to our local North African/Andalucian themed restaurant, and dined in their lantern lit cellar.  Stuffing our faces on the delicacies such as Slow Roasted Pork Belly served with Patatas a la Pobre & salad, Chorizo and Pepper Stew, Lamb Meatballs, Grilled Halloumi, Marinated Tiger Prawn Brochette, Spinach Potate and Manchengo Tortila  (am I making you hungry? sorry).  Settling down Sunday evening to catch up on my beloved Strictly Come Dancing - the perfect end to my weekend!  How was yours, what did you get up to?

If, like me, you find pattern matching puzzling and awkward then how about trying to mix it up with textures, these add depth & interest to a basic outfit without full on mixing.  See if you like my first attempt here - let me know what you think.

Here's today's example of an easier pattern amalgamation.
I've chosen my basic navy cropped trousers, then added an off white embossed short sleeved top, to give interest to an otherwise bland colour.  Now choosing my H & M Aztec patterned jacket in off white and grey. The finishing touch some grey beads to bring the colours together.  See how I've created an outfit that's full of interest without going hard on patterns and colours.  Hope you like today's choice.

These navy cropped wide leg trousers came from Florence and Fred, I bought these a few weeks ago in the sale for a fiver!  I love finding great deals, but don't we all?
The cream top came from New Look, having had this in my wardrobe for a few years now - it's a good basic item that gets plenty of wear.  Finishing off my look with this H & M jacket that I bought a couple of years ago.  It's a heavy weave that's perfect for Autumn when a little jacket keeps the chill at bay.

These shots were taken by Esther Ruby - thanks so much my love. X

  2. The Gin tasting sounds like a lot of fun! And I love that shot of your meal - that would have been a great occasion with family. I find time out with family is rare to have but always so treasured! :)

I like your jacket too - I have a similar one, although just stripes not a different pattern, and so I really like yours :)

Hope you have had a lovely weekend :)

  6. Snap! I have the exact same jacket Jacqui! I love how you've styled it up with these cropped trousers - that's given me food for thought. Don't give up on your journey with pattern play though. You did really well with that recent dabble and I think you're a natural at it.

    Enjoy your week!

  11. Oh yes! I remember this outfit on Instagram very well. I am such a fan of that beautiful Aztec jacket. And the cropped navy trousers are lovely. I am not a gin drinker myself, I tend to drink white wine and champagne. But if the Gin and tonic works for you, I say go for it!
