Forever Fierce - The Midlife Revolution!

Hello and good morning on this special Forever Fierce Monday.
I'm very proud to say I'm taking part in the The Forever Fierce Midlife Revolution, I hope you can follow along because there's some awesome ladies, with amazing stories to read about.
I was asked by Jodie from Jodie's Touch of Style to join the fierce group, I'm very proud to say I jumped in with two feet!

But first a little about the last few days.

Thursday after an early morning trip to the hairdressers I felt ten years younger - yes I'd had my grey highlights covered with more fringe (bangs for my American friends) chopped in.  Happy now I'm back to normal with a smarter, polished look.
Thursday evening I dined at my favourite restaurant Read's.  Together my close family & I ate some sumptuous dishes, I ordered cured Gravalax with potato salad and honey mustard dressing, I then ate the Lamb, lamb, lamb dish, yes it was lamb cooked three ways was melt-in-your-mouth amazing, I then devoured a passion fruit soufflĂ© with white chocolate ice cream, washed down with a few glasses of wine.  It really is a first class venue, where you feel very special to say the least.

Friday evening was the first birthday celebration of the year - I have a large extended family so there's always a birthday or two each month that we just have to celebrate, and celebrate we sure did -right through to midnight!  As you can imagine Saturday was a lazy, do nothing day, trying to recharge my batteries for another meal out on Saturday, we went to a local restaurant for a close friends birthday meal.  I had a wonderful evening catching up with friends that I'd not seen for ages.
Guess what I did on Sunday?  Yes nothing - truly a snooze-on-the-sofa-with-a-takeaway-for-dinner type of day, errrrr -  nope hang on a minute I  had a load of washing to do, there was plenty to tidy away, then hubby and I cooked a roast lamb dinner for six!  Finally at 8 o'clock I fell onto the sofa exhausted.

What does being Fierce in Midlife mean to you?

When starting this topic I perused the word Fierce and what it meant! the obvious answers were aggressive and angry, but along side them came intense, passionate, strong and keen these were words I preferred.  All features of women.  I worried that I didn't have any of these powers!  After pondering for quite a long time, I realised that everyone has these characteristics about them, they just are seen in different ways.
Because someone doesn't have a top job, haven't been through a major crisis, doesn't own their own business or run marathons they are still fierce women, as I am too.  Fierce women can be identified in many ways some of these include putting others first, loving animals, understanding soft power and the power of words, also she recognises the importance of nurture.

Nurturing is my thing - it's what I'm good at!

I married at twenty - nurturing my marriage and went on to have five wonderful children, nurturing each and everyone of them - giving them my all.
Feeding them for them to grow, caring for them when they were poorly, pushing them to achieve their best, encouraging them when things were tough, creating for them, even small things like a fancy dress outfit.  Taking them to clubs, we tried nearly all the clubs at some stage - sometimes I didn't know if I was dropping off or picking them up (they all went to different clubs at different times) I was/am a shoulder to cry on, and a friend to celebrate a victory with.

Hubby would always help, but this was my job and I loved it, still do.  I forget how old they actually are and what they are all capable of.  It's hard to let go of nurturing your children - I still cook for them, launder for them, taxi for them and worry about them!  I don't think that will ever change - it's what I'm here for!

I'm passionate about nurturing my family.  But now they don't need me - it's time to nurture myself.  I'm enjoying my time of life, my time to be fierce at midlife when I can have some me time, spend time with my hubby, have more holidays and cheeky nights out.  I love that I'm happy in my own skin, dress how I want to and be proud of what I've achieved.  Nurturing my family I'm now being supported by them, encouraged to do what I want to do, be it mature student (I'm taking a photography course) returning to my beloved dancing, keeping fit and getting engrossed with this wonderful hobby - blogging.
You can do what you want to do at any age, so enjoy being FIERCE while you do it!

Sharing an outfit that I borrowed from my mum!  This has been in her wardrobe for years.  She inspires me because she is a fierce lady for many reasons, but mainly for bringing me and my sister up alone - high five to my mum, she's done a fantastic job.  She is and always has been fierce!

  1. Great post Jacqui and fully agree with your definition of fierce. As a nurturing person you make your family and others feel special and loved. This is far more important (to me) than running a business or a marathon!

  10. I love this whole look on you. A trip to get a haircut always makes me feel like a new woman. Haha! I am the oldest of five and my mom gave up so much for us and now it's fun to see her take care of herself and invest in her.

I have been following your blog for quite a while now and have always seen you as a fierce woman...full of passion and love and gratitude for all of the blessings in your life! We all have a story of how we have arrived in midlife...and it was so much fun to read them all in this campaign. I am inspired beyond belief! Stay fierce, my friend.

  18. What a great post Jacqui! I love that you question the meaning of fierce as it's not one of my favourite words; my mother-in-law would sometimes say "You look a bit fierce today" which only led to me becoming defensive. I much prefer your take on the word and how it applies to you. Nurturing is more how I see myself and therefore find an affinity with you about that.

I love your vintage outfit and think it just goes to show that clothes were so well made in those days. The colours look fab on you too!

    Have a great weekend!

  19. I love the colours in this outfit Jacqui! I just bought some trousers in the same shade of green as your skirt. Looking after a family is one of the hardest things, but very rewarding. I only have one and that's demanding enough, I don't know how I'd cope with more! Thanks for linking up!

  21. Jacqui you are fierce and I just love how you love nurturing your family. Why do we feel like once our kids are grown we're supposed to stop? And apologize if we still do or make excuses. That is crazy and you are right - my mom is well into her 70s but her very favorite thing is to cook for and help out her 3 kids and of course grandchildren. I feel the very same way, you can raise amazing children but still nurture them as adults. Mine are 18 & 20 but I plan to continue to nurture forever, it's what moms do. Amen!
I also love that you said you are comfortable in your own skin and wear what you want. Amen to that too!
