Kent & Sussex Steam Train. Weekend away. #LINKUP

Hi there, thanks for joining me today, are you going to join the #LINKUP I do hope so!

You might recall last Saturday I spent the night in Tenterden after spending the evening travelling on the Kent and East Sussex Railway.  We were celebrating a special birthday of a close friend and the weekend certainly was a celebration.  Arriving mid-afternoon we had a quick look around the town, stopping for a drink in a local hostelry.  If you follow me on IG you'll have seen I found the house my Nan lived in, having last visited her when I was roughly 8, I congratulated myself that everything was as I remember!  I longed to knock on the door and have a look around, but thought that rather cheeky so didn't do it!  I have many happy memories of afternoon tea around her coal fire, albeit rather strong tea for a child!  Thinking it funny to have a coal scuttle in the kitchen and coloured glass (yellow I think) in the bathroom window!  She always had potted Hyacinths on the table, and to this day every time I smell one it takes me back to my nans front room!  Strange how aromas evoke feelings and memories as soon as the smell hits your nose!

After my little trip down memory lane, we returned to the hotel to change and ventured on to find the Station.
Upon arrival we were directed to a side cafeteria to enjoy some canapes and a glass of bubbly.

Finding our Pullman carriage and table, we were swiftly on our way.  The evening followed with a gourmet meal of vegetable soup, toasted muffin with flakes smoked mackerel, then apricot stuffed roast pork in a Biddenden cider and mustard sauce, all served with baby new potatoes and vegetables.
Cheese and biscuits were then served followed by a choice of four desserts!  I had two, a profiterole and a small portion of apple crumble.  As we were celebrating we relished a bottle of champagne plus a delightful red wine.

I decided to wear my H & M dress that I recently wore for the Style Not Age challenge.  It's just such a comfortable dress and I feel very confident wearing it.  Paired with nude sling backs and a pretty beaded necklace, topped off with my cream trench coat.  Which was just as well because typical British weather arrived when we walked back - yes it rained!

Profiteroles for hubby, here's the dessert trolley I deliberated over - can you see why it took me a while?

The staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble and all the service was accompanied by a little wit and a big smile!  Before long it was time to return to the hotel, where we enjoyed a night-cap by the log fire.  A wonderful evening that I would thoroughly recommend to anyone thinking of trying something different.

  1. Jacqui you've made my day! Firstly thank you so much for featuring my Mexican outfit post - I'm so thrilled! And secondly, I was so pleased to read your post because I have just booked a 'posh' train journey to Paris for my 50th Birthday next year. It's all very Paddington Bear, I can't wait! Hope you are having a great week xx

  9. Jacqui, what a fabulous time! This looks like quite the adventure and you look like you stepped right off the screen of an old Hollywood movie! Gorgeous. It always amazes me, too, how certain aromas can evoke such powerful memories. They do say that the sense of smell holds our oldest memories and they will use it court trials to help trauma victims remember details that they have buried away. Super fascinating!

I showed him your pictures and he just about fell over! We will take him to Thomas Land soon since he isn't quite ready for a wine and cheese one yet! Not for another 17 years! Lol 😂
