Lock-down Birthday.

Morning my dear friends.
How are you all doing?
Have you had a good weekend?
I've celebrated three family birthdays over the past weekend, the first was on Friday and it was mine!
I was really worried my special day wouldn't quite be the same and obviously it wasn't BUT it was a day I felt truly blessed & extremely loved.
Starting the day with a wake-up call from my grand-children was extra-special.  Cards followed hugs and kisses and happy birthday wishes.  Hubby bought me some gorgeous new sunglasses - I had given him a good idea of what I wanted, but love his choice anyway. 😉 I'll show you on the blog soon, but you can have a sneak peak of them here.
I had visits from my sister, sister-in-law and a couple of friends and I had my usual walk to see my daughter too. I also spoke with me bestie via Facetime - such a brilliant thing and also spoke to my son & my mum.   As I get older I realize having special cards with lovely words mean so much, I usually end up in tears when reading them - no different on Friday!   Lock-down is having an effect of everyone isn't it, I seem to worry all the time about things I can't control.  I'm eating too much and drinking far more than I should, but sometimes there's nothing to feel really good about or look forward to.  I am lucky to have my family around me and they do lift my spirits when I'm feeling down as I do for them. X

The family living with me had all been happy to have our dinner delivered by a local fish restaurant.  I've mention Wheelers Oyster Bar before having had many brilliant meals there in the past - it's a quaint little local restaurant serving fresh fish with Oysters being their speciality.  But the lobster lasagne is mouth-watering I must say!
The dinner was completed with some super sparkling cold glasses of champagne - my favourite and the whole meal was rounded off with fresh fruit and dipping chocolate.  I even had a surprise, not one but two cakes - both baked by my daughter, both yummy!!!  Errrr who mentioned diet? 🤣

Hands up who's been doing on-line shopping for clothes?  I've been really good so far having only just started to buy a few pieces.  I've had my eye on these culottes for a while and when they came I wasn't sure if I was going to keep them or not.  I wore them with flat trainers the other day and wasn't totally convinced they looked right - I'm not particularly tall and felt they made me look even shorter and somewhat dumpy!  But changing the look up with heels gives a totally different feel and I'm so much happier with them.  with plenty of scope for the neutral cream tone I've got plenty of ideas of what I can wear them with.  Costing a favourable £18 the twill high waisted trousers are very impressive, they fit like a dream and can be worn with a multitude of colours to create a number of different looks - do watch out for them as I'm sure they'll be on repeat throughout the summer months.

I think red looks stunning don't you?  H & M's advert showed the model wearing a red blouse, so I found this little cami vest to replicate the look.  It's also the perfect colour scheme to compliment my pretty necklace, it's an Australian Opal set in silver & mounted on a dainty little necklace.

How good do these mules look?  I especially love the woven pattern and the feminine heel and pointed toe.  They came from Wallis, but unfortunately aren't on the website so have probably now sold out!

You might be able to see my darling necklace that I've been wearing recently. (Are you like me and wear something nearly every day and then put it away again?)  The children bought it for a birthday present a few years ago and it was nice to come across it whilst checking my jewellery box and thought it looked good with the red and yellow top I chose to wear with my culottes.
This dainty little silver Opal necklace is really similar.

Here's some of the food we ordered.  We just had to re-heat all the dishes in the oven and serve, I also prepared some Jersey Royals in butter and parsley.
Lobster thermidor and New Zealand mussels, homemade pesto and grated Ashmore cheese.

Ignore the pizza, that was for my son.  That's Lobster and prawn, basil creme fraiche and parmesan spaghetti and smoked haddock, tomato and cheese flan.

Curried haddock fish cakes - so delicious.

Seafood tagliatelle with saffron rice.

Baked dressed crab, Nduja butter with parmesan or blue cheese crumb.

This crab and prawn tart was simply divine and just as tasty cold the next morning.

Like the Queen has two birthday's I have two cakes - chocolate in the front with lemon drizzle behind it.

Here's a tasty way to eat fruit, dipped in melted chocolate.  Banana, strawberries, pineapple and grapes, the marshmallows are too tempting to resist.

  3. Jacqui, happy, happy birthday, my friend! It sounds like your day was filled with many blessings. We are celebrating 3 birthdays this weekend. My husband’s, my neighbor’s, and mine. We are cooking outside and ordered a cake with all three of our names on it. Like a bunch of children! But we are super excited to celebrate together since we are so limited to how many people can be together. I love your outfit in this post. That floral top is so beautiful on you and I am really digging the cropped pants. And all that food looks amazing!

  16. Happy Birthday my friend! I swear there are more May birthdays than any other month. I myself know over 200 people born in May, a lot of bloggers are celebrating this month too. As you know I also am a May baby but a quarantined birthday was not so bad after all. And looks at that amazing food and awesome desserts you celebrated with. ALL OF THAT FANCY FOOD IS RIGHT UP MY ALLEY. Love the platter of fruit with melted chocolate and marshmallows, too. And what a super chic look which is both dressy and casual. Your mules and jewelry are beautiful, Jacqui. =)

  18. That's a lovely Summery outfit! I hope you had a wonderful birthday...the chocolate cake looks delicious! I've been drinking more than usual too and I've got to stop now and be more disciplined now. I get into habits too easily, but on the plus side I can kick them quite quickly too...good and bad ones! I have been shopping online a bit - I think there will be a lot of big sales on soon due to all the unsold Spring/Summer stock!
