Vest, Tank or Spencer Top - What Do You Call It?

Hi there, good morning to you all.
Well haven't we had some lovely weather in the UK recently?
It's actually been warm enough to sit OUTSIDE in the sun over the weekend.  I'm sure the vitamin D worked wonders for me because on Sunday I woke up in a really happy and positive mood.  I actually wanted to get on with my jobs and enjoyed preparing the vegetables for our roast dinner.
I also feel I'm starting to get to grips of my camera and managing to get some super shots {see below} taken by my son.  Well to be honest my daughter too some great photos too but when I checked them out I realised I'd already taken & shared some piccy's of the same outfit.  Quick change of clothes and makeup so my son could take more! {the memory really isn't what it used to be}. Lol
If you saw Thursday's post you'll have seen I've been talking about the #Spencer top - other names for this item are a vest top or tank top.  You may also be like me wearing them for the second time around!  They were the height of fashion in the 70's and I vaguely remember having a navy knitted v neck that stretched in all the wrong places!  I didn't think I'd be going there again, but spotted this gorgeous lady wearing hers over a dress and immediately wanted in on the act.  I found I had one that I really didn't want to admit to, but having seen how popular they've become enjoyed styling it with a pleated skirt and plain white blouse last week. X
Here's how I styled the one I found on Ebay from Zara.

Now I surprised myself that I could actually fit into this dress because I bought it for my grandson's christening the year before last.  I managed to put weight on during lock-down and didn't think I'd get it on!  Feeling happy that I could so I pulled on this knitted vest over the top extending the life of my lightweight dress for these cooler months.  Do let me know what you think of this new-to-me fashion.
I found the 'new with tags' #spencer vest on ebay.  It wasn't much cheaper, but being out of stock on the Zara website felt it was worth the £10 price tag!
I love everything about this cute little top.  The length is perfect and can be rolled under to make it shorter. It's a brilliant shade of cream that goes with so much and will give a bit of warmth to so many of my outfits. Lastly how super are the shoulder pads!  A real nod to the 80's eh (who remembers the blouses, jackets and dresses with said pads? Hands up who's still got some ..... ME!!!! Lol.

Rather than wear court shoes like I did previously I donned some tan slouch boots to keep my legs and feet warm, no tights for me although the wind was a tad breezy so I really should have worn some!

Photo bombed by my hubby  ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️..... this will always make the blog. 💕

Thanks so much to my son and daughter for taking photos for me, I'm starting to get to grips with the settings.  The photos are beginning to look quite good I think!

  1. Brilliant idea to wear a vest over a dress. I'm going to jot that down and give it a try myself. And it's been wonderful to see the evolution of your photos.

  2. I’ll always love a good neutral look! That’s what I’ve usually called a sweater vest (if it’s knitted). I never thought about doing this-great idea!

  5. It's always fun to try something new, isn't it? You look fabulous. I couldn't wear that colour because it completely washes me out, sadly. I'm LOVING those boots though. Gorgeous!

  7. that's a lovely dress on you and great layering too! I don't have any vests like this but it looks cosy for a cold day, and the colours work well with the lovely print on the dress :)

  8. Jacqui, I really like the way you have styled this vest over your dress. I just saw this exact same Zara vest in a thrift shop last week. It was in my size and I pondered it but I was completely unsure how to style it, so I left it behind. If it is still there on my next thrifting adventure, I may have to grab it up and give it a try! Thanks for linking with me.
