Statement Sleeves - Style not Age

Hello my lovely friends.
How's your Bank Holiday weekend going?
Hasn't the month just flown by!  I think it's because we've had a little more freedom as I'm fitting more and more into my weeks.  I've been enjoying it, but admit it's been hard keeping up with it all, I hope in time I'll get used to it again and fit even more exciting things in too.

Over the weekend I enjoyed a family party at my mum's house.  Fortunately the weather was good for us and we had an outdoor event with a bouncy castle for the kids that lasted into the early evening when the weather got windy and much cooler.  We made it easier for mum by all taking a plate of food - I made some smoked salmon pate and coronation chicken with rice.  It was a super afternoon and we all had a thoroughly great time - and that was without any adults having a go on the bouncy castle!

Anyway enough of my weekend antics, let's jump into the August Style Not Age challenge.

The challenge was set by Emma - Style Splash who's prompt of Statement Sleeves certainly got me thinking!  I have many items with noticeable sleeves and knowing I've used most of them on the blog already made the challenge a little hard for me.

I've ended up picking a pretty top that you may recall seeing in the past (I've had this Bonmarche top for years).  I wanted to pair it with a classic white skirt but couldn't find one suitable so decided to go with the Autumnal transitional look and wore these grey culottes .... complimenting grey leaf on my pretty blue floral blouse perfectly.

I love anything with something that stands out, so sleeve detail really work for me.  That's why I was drawn to this floral beauty from Bonmarche some years ago.  I love the fluted detail on it and even though some sleeve details can be cumbersome when eating these haven't been a problem.
You have also seen this worn over white three quarter jeans in the past, which you can see here.

Even with the new month arriving I hate to admit to the new season arriving too.  It's even worse when we've not had any sort of Summer either.  I've still a horde of summery outfits that haven't seen the light of day yet!  However I gave in and wore a darker bottom half by way of these grey culottes.
Culottes are a great way of embracing trousers for cooler weather without totally giving into wearing a full cover up.  I can also still get away with sandals, so long as it's not raining.

Here's a closer look at these delight sleeves, if the floral blouse wasn't feminine enough the fluted cuff certainly confirms it's a lovely ladylike top.

Shall we see what the others have up their sleeves!  Pardon the pun.😆

Let's have a look at Emma's choice.  Emma's bargain top from River Island goes really well with her bright patterned trousers and also her neon sandals, it's all a real statement don't you think?
Find more details here on the blog Style Splash.

Hilda opted for a fabulous statement denim shirt that has amazing sleeves and fits in with her jeans for the most perfect double denim helping.  See more from Hilda - Over the Hilda.

Gail - Is This Mutton is wearing the most prettiest blouse with such dainty frills down her sleeve - definitely a striking loo-at-me detail I love it!  Do check out her blog for all the back story.

Finally shall we see Anna's outfit.  I loving these pleated sleeves on Anna's neutral blouse, and they are given the limelight being paired over straight jeans, the colours look right at home by the stunning beach too.  Find out all the details on the blog Anna's Island Style.

Great to have you join us today, do hop over to check out what my four friends made of the challenge, one I liked in the end!
See you in September, Thursday that is!
Bye for now. X

  2. Jacqui your look is so put-together. I love it. I think I am over summer. Our heatwave recently only lasted a few days. At least we had it when we were away. Today I will need a coat....

  4. Love that pretty top Jacqui! I do worry that we're already talking about transitional dressing already though - like you, I've got lots of summer outfits that haven't been out yet this year. Let's hope we get an Indian Summer this month eh? x

  5. I love that the sleeves are not full length which makes them less cumbersome when eating or doing the dishes. It is also a pretty color and I am sure pairs well with denim, white or any other color.
