Style Not Age are Iris Apfel Inspired.

Hi there my friends.
Do hope you've had a super weekend - I certainly have with the icing on the cake being a big family roast at my daughters house to celebrate Mother's Day with all the family attending.  My mum came too which was marvellous.  We had roast turkey and all the extras, I even had a frozen red cabbage left over from Christmas and my son-in-law made his own pigs-in-blankets - yum yum and totally full up now.  So the rest of the week will be back calorie counting to compensate for my 'pigging out' on Sunday!

With it being the last Monday of the month it's time the latest installment from the ladies of Style Not Age.
With this months theme falling into the hands of Hilda she gave us the tasty yet tricky prompt of ...

Inspired by Iris Apfel.

There's a new collaboration in town between Iris Apfel and H & M.  I'm excited to see this up close and personal, so will be paying a visit to my local store toute suite.  Iris, who's pattern mixing is second to none, pairs flashy prints with feather boas, bangles, beads, beads and more beads.  She wears statement round glasses too, these are here signature so you'll never forget who she is!
These looks aren't for everyone, but will certainly make you stand out from the crowds. Do share if you've seen the new edit and if you've bagged an unusual garment or two.

Well I can confirm that this proved to be 100% a tricky title for me.  I didn't want to buy anything new as I figured I had plenty in my wardrobe to complete the look and so I set about styling my copy with enthusiasm.  I have to add it's not my most favourite look and I probably won't be repeating it, but it was interesting to try!

Items marked with * have been gifted to me, however these are 100% my own honest comments.

As I said I didn't want to purchase new as I've got so much in the wardrobe that would definitely work.
I've got plenty of beads that would emulate Iris so the string of pearls was a good start for me.  These we bought from Primark a good few years ago.  I wanted a flamboyant set to wear with a pretty two piece I wore for my nephews wedding. I'm a big fan of pearls for a special occasion and loved the extreme length and amount on this set.  I'll try and dig out a photo so you can see when I first wore them

The dress is old too, you have seen it one the blog previously when I styled if for our Style Not Age - favourite trends for Autumn prompt.

I saw Iris has an appetite for ostentatious patterns and textures so popped on my patchwork blouse over the rust dress.  Again you've seen the shirt styled before.  It's got an array of tones running through so I picked out the blue and wore matching flats.
These have been gifted from Vivaia.  It's a company that makes sustainable and stylish footwear.  They actually make shoes from bottles - you can read all the back-story here - it's rather interesting and so clever.

The Aria 5* in denim blue is a pointed toe ballet flat.  They fit true to size, I wear a 6.5 and these fit well.  Personally I prefer to have a slight heel, basically because I'm not used to wearing them and they make my calves ache, so I'll need to wear these more often to get my legs used to them, but they'll look really good with jeans so that wont be a problem.  I have to add they are extremely soft and spongy to walk in - they're like wearing trainers but look a bit more stylish and are also really good for the feet.

I do hope we've inspired your inner Apfel, so let me know in the comments if you've every styled similar looks, I love to hear from you. X

Now let's see what the other's achieved shall we?

As it was Hilda's idea I'll share her look first.  Borrowed from a local shop and using her daughter's necklaces has brought about a perfect copy of Iris's flamboyant style.  Do pop over to read all about Hilda's look here on her blog Over the Hilda.

Next it's Anna's turn. Jewellery is key to Iris's look and Anna has chosen well with her 9 necklaces!  See more of her look over on Anna's Island Style.

Now shall we see what Emma chose? It's a favourite combination of Iris by way of the red with turquoise jewellery.  It's a cool look and is a perfect example of how to get noticed! Find out all the details over on her blog ... Style Splash.

Finally this is what Gail - Is This Mutton opted for.  Her bright pink jumper looks such a fun and joyful top especially with the jazzy green scarf that stands it.  The glasses are a telltale sign of who she's copying - I love it all Gail.

Many thanks for stopping by to see us this week, It's so good to have you join, let me know what you think of our looks my friends, I love to hear what you have to say!

Bye bye for now. X

I'm not sure how I would have styled it, but I did get an email from H&M this morning telling me that the collab was coming on Wednesday so I shall certainly be checking it out!

    1. Don't the girls look great! This wasn't my favourite topic, but worked out ok in the end. I can't wait to see what's in my local shop, probably not much, but it will be nice to see what the pieces are like. Hooray for the old girls I say *clapping hands emoji* xx Hope you're well Suzy. x

  2. Oh, gosh! That would be such a fun prompt and yet a little daunting! You all did a magnificent job channeling your inner Iris! Have you seen the documentary (it's a few years old) on her? Such a fun thing to watch! I may have to try to do something like this sometime!
