Did you remember I've been away for the weekend?
I went to Germany and visited Baden Baden which is in the Black Forest region and absolutely stunning it was too.
I flew out on Friday with David and our sister & brother-in-law, our other friends drove out to meet us too. It was a quick flight and we arrived to meet our private taxi in no time. The transfer was short too so it was nice to get there and settle in. Our friends bought our suitcases with them and as they were arriving later we didn't have anything to unpack, so made use of the hotel's bar until they arrived!
It was a beautiful hotel, which was near the center so, close to everything we needed. The Hotel Beek turned out to be a fabulous choice and I would thoroughly recommend it. The rooms were stylish, friendly, had the obvious en suite facilities and offered a mini bar with tea/coffee making facilities in the room as well. The hotel also had an adjoining cafe patisserie which offered very tempting cakes and pastries along with drinks which included prosecco and beer - we had a fun few hours in there on Friday afternoon before we went out!
With very cold temperatures over the weekend, I was wrapped up all cosy and warm in my new navy coat. Obviously I would have preferred to wear fewer layers and heels to look a bit more glamorous, but I have to say most of the other ladies I saw looked very chic in their long coats, hats and chunky boots I actually felt quite at home in the 'toasty' attire.
Germany is famed for the Christmas markets and Baden, Baden's didn't disappoint. It was just passed the main city area, down by the river. The were plenty of little huts selling all sorts of ware. Lots of different food was served too, so we took advantage of the Bratwurst, Gluhwein, Hot Chocolate, and BBQ'd food I also had a really unusual deep fried potato which was cut in a spiral on a wooden skewer - anyone know what they are called?
This photo was taken at the entrance to the nearby Spa - Caracalla Therme. Included in the hotel stay was a complimentary 1 hour visit there, but unfortunately I didn't take my swimsuit so didn't get to enjoy it. Must remember next time!
Just down the road from the Hotel was a quaint little area that was decorated for the festive season.
There was so much to see I didn't know where to look first.
Father Christmas was everywhere, with elves, polar bears, reindeer and all sorts of Christmas'y paraphernalia adorned the surrounding buildings. The white bears were playing music which was sort of 'rag time' and had plenty of people dancing in the street - yes I was one of them! There was also a trapezing Father Christmas, my BIL wanted one and has been searching - I hope he finds one!
You can see it here on my Instagram post.
We dined in the restaurant Lowenbrau. With a great selection I was spoiled for choice, but ended up with ribs and chips - not very regional for the Black Forest, which I made up for on the final night. I had two types of fondue ... cheese and oil with steak and it was delicious!
The first night I didn't change, just stayed in what I traveled in. It was really nice to say relaxed and chilled and not have to rush off to get changed. However on the second and third night I did change for the evening meal. Unfortunately this is the only photo I had taken!
Faux leather trousers looked super teamed with a sequined top, I felt I was a tad over-dressed but still went ahead with my noticeable look. The trousers are new from Tu clothing. I previously bought a pair in M & S, but couldn't get my size when I found they were too small. Whilst shopping the other day I found these for half the price so took a chance. Pleased to say they fit me well and look just as nice as the first pair!
The sparkly top has been around for a couple of years and to be honest I don't even remember what shop it's from, but I do know the kids bought it for me and what a good choice they made. X
I didn't actually drink it! 😂

What a fun holiday trip, Jacqui! I love seeing Christmas cities all decorated for the holidays. I grew up in a Christmas city (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, which is nicknamed “The Christmas City”!) You look so cute and cozy in your navy puffer coat and I absolutely love your sparkly top dressy outfit! You look fabulous, my friend.
