Wow that was a whirlwind few days, how did it go for you?
Sharing a short post with you today on what is the last one of 2022!
Seems only a blink of my eye I was getting ready to go out on Christmas Eve.
I got up early to wrap the remaining presents, made my traditional red cabbage and started to get ready.
I really, really enjoy Christmas Eve, we always go out, except for the last couple of years when Covid was rife. I wore my recent purchase from Germany. It's an off white cable knit dress, that was a bit out of the norm for me, but I think the look was very nice, especially with my white boots and coat!
Do you remember I'd booked a table at El Sol in Canterbury? It was a replacement from the one I always used to frequent on Christmas Eve. Well it turned out to be fabulous, such tasty dishes I can't wait to go again in the New Year.
Christmas Day, albeit a quiet and small affair with only four, was still very busy. I made pate and David made his usual amazing turkey gravy. It really is the best bit of the meal for me and I don't know what I'd do if he didn't make it. We sat down with my two kids who still live at home and we devoured our meal in no time, my middle daughter had popped round in the morning before spending the day with her husbands family. We opened presents together and looked forward to the following day when there would be 18 of us!!! Once the dinner was finished I spent the evening with a box of chocolates, a bottle of fizz and my favourite film ... The Holiday. Well Christmas wouldn't be Christmas if I didn't watch it!
Boxing Day, well what can I say. It went brilliantly! Everyone mucked in and I managed to seat all 18 around two tables in our small dining room! Pleased as punch as it all looked amazing too. I'd divided all the dishes into two, one for each end of the table so there was no passing, well except for the turkey plates. Dessert was served after a game I'm going to tell you about and some present exchanges. I'd made profiteroles and a big vanilla cheesecake, and these along with the Christmas pudding and trifle also went down very well! Like most of you we were still eating some a couple of days after!
So about this game.
Well everyone is asked to bring a wrapped present or two with them. These can be bought, bought in a charity shop, taken from home or an unwanted gift. They are placed on a table awaiting to be picked. Two packs of cards are used, one set is dealt out to the players and/or not the dealer. The dealer also has a pack of cards, they in turn call out the card, the player with the matching one picks a prize. So this carries on until all prizes are picked.
Now the dealer turns the cards and if the player matches they can 'steal' a wrapped gift from another player - obviously no-one knows what's in the present but some will be more enticing than others. Once all the cards are dealt the cards are returned and the gifts are opened.
Now everyone knows what the presents are and who they belong to. The cards are once again dealt out and the dealer turns their cards & the player who 'matches' their card can steel the prize they want until all cards are turned.
It's a funny, fast game that had us in fits of laughter. We had a gift box of Prosecco with glasses and everyone wanted them, so it was being passed back and forth as the cards were matched! We laughed so much, it was super fun and all ages can play. My mum loved it as much as the kids did!
Guess where the Prosecco ended up? Ya ha in my house.... lol!
My two Christmas outfits were a black sparkly jumpsuit and the sparkly top I shared on Monday. This I wore over the faux leather jeans and looked perfect for the sparkly season. Alas I didn't get any photos, will try to share some soon.
