Hi there,
How are you today?
I've had a wonderful couple of days away followed by a busy couple of days with the kids. If you didn't know I went to Cornwall with my mum and sister for my uncle's 80th birthday. He lives in a remote area near the South West coast in a little place near Lostwithiel. It's beautiful down there with stunning scenery which I hasten to add was even more improved by the fact that it was hot and sunny. I've been when it's rained and even though it's very damp and dreary still looks very picturesque. Have you even been to Cornwall?
Today's post is all about the wonderful couple of days I spent there, so I hope you enjoy my memories.
Nothing new accompanied me except some pieces that I want to share with you on Monday's post, so do drop by to see some of the new in collection from Bonmarche.
We departed early on Sunday morning hoping we'd evaded the usual heavy traffic to the West country. Fortunately for us it was fairly quiet and the journey down to Stonehenge was uneventful. We decided to stop for breakfast in the services. It was nice to stretch our legs and have a bite to eat before my sister took the steering wheel (I did the first half) and drove the rest of the journey down to Liskeard. We arrived to the friendly couple - Julie and Patrick, and welcoming hotel Pencubitt House. It's nestled in a quiet area of Liskeard overlooking rich green fields and stunning views of the stone viaduct and really does feel like coming home every time I arrive there.
Here’s some photos of the glorious Victorian Manor House.

Breakfast was divine with plenty of choices in the friendly quiet dining room.

Once we were settled into the hotel we enjoyed drinks in the sitting room before getting ready to surprise my uncle in his home. Julie and Patrick had been hard at work throughout Covid and the following couple of years re-decorating some of the rooms and also refurbishing one of their sitting rooms into a new lounge for guests to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee whilst enjoying the stunning views. My cousin also arrived and we soon got chatting about old times when we used to stay together at her house and enjoy the vast garden they had and the freedom of running amuck in the woods! Lots of memories were relived throughout the weekend and it was definitely good therapy for us all! A twenty minute taxi journey to my uncles house followed, with a wonderful meal devoured whilst enjoying chit chat about past times and what everyone was doing now - you know the usual conversations that passed all too soon and before I knew it the return taxi had arrived! Straight to bed when we got back after a quick coffee in the sitting room. I appreciated my comfy bed after the early start, long journey and the fact I’d not slept well the night before!
On Monday, we decided to visit the Duchy of Cornwall Nursey which was just down the round. I wandered around the indoor and outdoor gardens which sold various goodies from Cornish ceramics, to hand soaps and birthday cards. I didn’t get anything but saw some stunning dresses and healthy indoor and outdoor plants along with lots of pretty ornaments and garden additions. The little restaurant offered various scrummy cakes along with traditional scones, clotted cream and jam - guess who had to have one! 😉 We dropped my uncle off at his house and went in for a quick drink, enjoying the sunshine in the garden whilst picking out all the insects in the garden and the birds flying overhead.
That evening the hotel restaurant was the dinner venue. Having ordered prior to arrival there was nothing to worry about, so pre-dinner drinks were top of the list! Can you guess what I had? I’d picked king prawn cocktail, lamb shank in red wine gravy followed by apple and blackcurrant crumble with custard. Absolutely delicious I might add.
Answer (Prosecco) did you guess correctly?
The morning soon arrived and after a hearty breakfast the journey home started. Some 5 1/2 hours later it was good to return home to David and the family and relay all the fun events of the past couple of days. 🩷
