How's your week going?
Not such a busy one for me fortunately, we had a couple of birthdays over the past few days and it's been lovely to enjoy treating two of my granddaughters with 'girly' presents. Kimberley enjoyed a dance mat and a Moana dressing up outfit - she looked perfect for the occasion as did Autumn. She was dressed very girly in a tulle dress and I can't wait to take her for her present to get her nails painted and also have a mini facial. I'm so excited for her to experience this as I know she's going to love it!
Gym classes have been a little out of sync over the past couple of weeks. You see I’ve had my eyebrows done with semi-permanent makeup which I wasn’t allowed to get wet. I refrained from swimming and my classes where I tend to get sweaty, just incase I ruined them. So with that and the couple of classes that were cancelled it’s been a bit hit and miss. I’m looking forward to getting back to normal as I’ve missed the exercise! Dancing has been the same though and I’ve enjoyed both ballet and ballroom last week. I’m thrilled with my new brows and will be showing them off once they’ve completely healed. I promise you they look great!
Do you have a fashion style? It's a question I often hear asked so today I thought I'd share my own fashion style with you today.
I would like to say it's taken me nearly 50 years to be in the satisfying position of knowing my own style, however since a young age - my teens - I've always been drawn to wearing classic clothes that flatter and give an air of sophistication. With that being said I do turn to fashionable items at times and admit to going out in shorts and a tee shirt back in the 80's complete with heels and big hair. My usual look would have been and is still now, a midi length dress or skirt with complimentary top and heels AND I would never ever deviate from my three colour rule! That, my friends, has most definitely changed and I’ve embraced a relaxed liking for mixing colours in a more elevated way. Everything matched including bag and shoes - now wasn't that a thing back in the day? I pretty much had a standard uniform when I was in my middle to late teens, I wore skinny jeans and slingback heels (always thought that looked very chic) and had a handful of dresses and separates that would see me through most occasions - my wardrobe was nowhere near as big as it is now!
I've more or less been the same throughout my life, shopping in M & S, Wallis, Next etc although I ventured into Top Shop and bought a few things from there in my time but felt their clothes were a bit unusual for me. I loved Snob (remember them) and bought a fabulous two piece in there for a christening for one of the kids. It was a mixture of colours including brown, green, gold and tan and I wore tan court shoes with it. I felt the 'bees knees' in it I can say!! One reason I reckon I felt they weren't for me was being conscious of my body. I've always been a pear shape and hated my lack of boobs and big bum! I dressed to compliment my figure and hid behind longer tops that were loose. One of my go-to looks was a pencil skirt with a silky blouse over the top worn with a belt that I bagged over creating a more balanced shape. To a certain extent I still kind of dress this way, but I now know what to wear that's flattering. I feel more at home in midi length dresses and skirts and love a wide leg trouser. I also opted for tops that have a pattern or some sort of detail on them and can feel a little self conscious if I wear a fitted top, yes even now! I will balance that out with a short jacket maybe with shoulder pads.
It's easy to get 'in' on a fashion trend without jumping in with both feet. You can try adding trending shades in small accents like a pair of shoes, a little handbag or a scarf or piece of jewellery. If frills and ruffles are taking centre stage why not add them by way of a little top instead of a dress, or maybe if trainers are too flat for you buy some with a chunky sole to give you the height you feel comfortable with. There's plenty of ways to add a fashion statement into your look, without it taking over. However if you love to embrace all the fashion statements you go for it - we all have to do and wear what we feel happy with don't we!
So every now and again you will see me in something trendy and I hope you'll agree that I look nice in it. If I'm drawn to a fashion I'll make sure I'm happy with how it looks and spend time finding the right fit, cut, shape etc - it really does make all the difference. So I like to call my style "Classic and elegant with a twist of fashion when I think it's right" How about you? Do you know your style?
Now before we jump into the linkup party, let me show you an outfit I wore earlier this week. It's one I'm happy in and feel right at home wearing.

As I mentioned above, wide leg trousers and jeans are kind of my favourites styles to wear as they balance my figure nicely. This stretchy pair has a convenient elastic waist band which keeps everything in place beautifully. It’s got a slight check pattern, but it’s very faint and looks good texture wise. I paired my adidas trainers with them for a casual look and popped on a basic white jumper which is quite fitted but I feel looks okay (maybe because I’ve lost a few lbs too). I went for a bold jacket which is a cropped almost blouson style - see how it equals everything out. The jacket has striking shoulder pads creating extra width on the top half. It’s just a lovely jacket and the colour red makes me feel so positive. ❤️
